Show Notes

Accenture is doubling down on India’s booming demand for artificial intelligence and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), betting that sharper leadership and a bigger stake in the GCC ecosystem can drive lasting growth. Former McKinsey partner Pradeep Prabhala will take the helm of Accenture’s India Market Unit, tasked with helping clients unlock value from data and AI while guiding multinationals to build out advanced operations hubs. The stakes are high: If Accenture pulls it off, it moves from being a consultant to owning a bigger piece of the action every time a Fortune 1000 company goes “India-first” in tech and operations.

But here’s the catch: GCCs are getting savvier and could cut out external advisors, threatening Accenture’s billable hours. That’s why Accenture is eyeing majority control of ANSR, a Bengaluru-based firm that has helped set up more than 210 GCCs, in a potential billion-dollar deal. The move could let Accenture shape not just the advice but the entire build—and capture more downstream AI and managed services work—though it risks getting pulled into lower-margin, capital-heavy projects unless those AI transformation dreams materialize.

Results are already mixed: Strong wins like the Scottish Water digital overhaul show Accenture can still outpace rivals like Capgemini and Atos, even as new bookings dip and investor pressure for margin discipline grows. Reporting from The Globe and Mail and others highlights the balancing act ahead—between scaling new bets in India, fending off local competitors like HCLTech, and proving those bold moves actually boost the bottom line.
